Soroti University Library is proud to join the global community in celebrating International Open Access Week, from October 21 to October 27, 2024. This year’s theme, “Community over Commercialization”, emphasizes prioritizing collective and inclusive knowledge-sharing practices over profit-driven models.
Open Access (OA) is a critical movement in academic publishing that ensures free and immediate access to research outputs for everyone, fostering a more equitable educational environment. By supporting Open Access, Soroti University empowers students, researchers, and faculty to access cutting-edge research without financial barriers, thereby contributing to global knowledge dissemination and innovation.
As part of our commitment to advancing academic resources, we are proud to partner with TCC Africa, a research capacity Trust based at the University of Nairobi, KENYA, for a special training webinar. The webinar will explore access and use of Open Access AI tools such as Dimensions A.I, Schorlacy and Open Research Library by Knowledge Unlatched for the academic community, helping researchers, students, and faculty access, create, and disseminate knowledge more effectively.
The webinar will be moderated by our own Librarian, Mr. Steven Econyu, whose expertise in library services will guide participants through this insightful session. We invite all members of the Soroti University community to take part in this enriching opportunity to expand their knowledge on open access and artificial intelligence.
Throughout the week, Soroti University Library staff will also be available to engage with students and novice researchers to offer guidance on accessing Open Access resources, and possibly answer questions related to Open Access, OA journals, and discussions on the future of Open Access in Uganda and beyond. We invite the university community to participate actively and make the most of the vast resources available through Open Access.
